New boss settles in at Scots title

Jonathan Russell has been settling into the editor's chair at the Paisley Daily Express after taking over from Norman Macdonald.

Jonathan, (33), who joined the title this week, is a former editor of the Scottish Mirror.

He also previously worked as a Scottish correspondent for the Mirror and began his career at the Evening Express in Aberdeen in the mid 1980s.

Prior to joining the Paisley title he had worked freelance for a year, mainly producing news and sport features for various Scottish titles.

Jonathan said: "It's going very well so far. I've been getting to know the staff and getting a feel for the paper.

"I left the Mirror because I wanted to do something different. I enjoyed freelancing but missed newspapers so this job is ideal."

But he knows the job will be a challenge as he aims to build on the circulation success the paper has enjoyed in the past few years.

He said: "The paper is doing well but I don't think any paper can suffer from having a fresh eye cast over it.

"So far I've been very pleased with the standard of the staff here and they've made the first few days easier than I feared they might have been.

"I'm sure with their help we can move the paper forward."

  • Norman Macdonald left the Paisley Daily Express last month after eight years at the helm to set up his own media company, Macdonald Media.
