News updates as they happen are to be a feature of stands selling the Nottingham Evening Post.
The electronic three-tier newspaper stands are topped by moving headlines, alerting readers to the news stories of the day.
And if stories break in later issues, the flashing headline transmission can quickly be changed by newsroom staff.
Research has shown that this type of stand can increase sales by 15 per cent.
They are currently in place at two trial sales areas - in a Sainsbury's and a Tesco supermarket in the circulation area. If they prove to be successful they may used at outlets throughout the county.
Evening Post key accounts manager Gary Grimes said the idea may even be taken a stage further.
"If they can be battery operated, then the Post vendors in the street may even have the headlines flashing across their kiosks.
"We are also looking into a system where we are electronically notified when the stands are running low on newspapers so we can automatically send out more copies."
