Invitations sent to 24 editors for Galway get-together

A host of prominent names from the British press - all linked by the Greenslade Bursary - will be brought together by the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors.

In 1977 the Society set up a scholarship in memory of journalist and former member David Greenslade, who had died earlier that year, to bring an editor from the British Isles to its annual conference.

Since then it has been awarded to many well-known names such as Peter Long, editor-in-chief of Celtic Newspapers, Society of Editors director Bob Satchwell and Hereford Times editor Liz Griffin.

Now the Society is hoping that many of the past Greenslade Bursary recipients will attend its annual conference which is this year being held in Galway, Ireland, from July 2 to 6.

David Greenslade was the editorial director of the Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser and Worksop Guardian and served as president of the Newspaper Society in 1975-76.

He was the only person to have held that post and the office of president of the Guild of British Newspaper Editors, which he served in 1967.

For more information about the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors and its annual conference, visit www.iswne.org.
