Weekly widens its reach with new edition

A new edition of the Hertfordshire-based Comet has been launched to cover Biggleswade, Potton, Sandy and the surrounding villages.

The new publication will be delivered free to 11,000 homes in the Biggleswade area and will include more than a dozen change pages, taking in news, leisure and sport.

The new addition means the newspaper, which is published by Archant, now produces four editions each week, covering Stevenage, Hitchin and Letchworth and Baldock, with a total weekly distribution of 86,000.

Editor Darren Isted said: "The Comet has a reputation for unrivalled news coverage in North Herts and Mid Beds and we will be extending this into our new area.

"We certainly aim to make an impact and give readers and advertisers the bigger picture from the whole of Comet country."

Archant Hertfordshire regional director Garry Matthews added: "The new Biggleswade Comet epitomises the group's desire to expand through innovation and follows on the back of our successful launch of the Wood and Vale title in North London in January 2003.

"The finished product is a tribute to the hard work put in by the team over the past few months and the success of this new title is a prelude to two further launches which are planned for Hertfordshire later this year."
