Reporter faces the highs and lows of newspaper life

Reporter Virginia 'Ginny' Bridgewater may have only been with The Argus in Brighton for two months, but she has already experienced the highs and lows of life in the city.

Shortly after joining The Argus from the Macclesfield Express, the intrepid hack donned a hard hat for a tour of the Brighton's Victorian sewer network.

And a few days later, Ginny was invited to scale new heights for a first-person account of life in the Chinese State Circus.

Dressed in a blue sequinned cat-suit, she was ordered to shimmy up a 20ft pole - and as other local journalists watched from the safety of the ground, Ginny flashed through the air, trapeze in one hand, notebook in the other.

  • Ginny's career reaches new heights
  • Ginny, (28), said: "The West Pier fire in my first week was exciting. And the sewers were actually quite fascinating once you got over the whiff.

"But going up on a trapeze with world class acrobats - that was something else."

Now The Argus' new stunt-girl is setting her sights even higher.

She said: "The kite-surfing world championships are being held on the beach and my news editor already has a mischievous glint in his eye."

Editor-in-chief Simon Bradshaw said: "That's Ginny. We send her down to the circus for a story and she becomes the star attraction."
