Death of former editor

Isobel Connor, a former editor of the Hamilton Advertiser and Wishaw Press, has died. She was 58.

Isobel began her career in journalism as a trainee reporter at the Hamilton Advertiser in 1962 and worked her way through the ranks to become chief reporter and then the paper's first woman editor.

In 1979 she moved to the Wishaw Press to become editor and helped increase the paper's circulation.

She took early retirement in 1996.

Her husband, Jim, was also a newspaperman, working for the Hamilton Advertiser and becoming picture editor of The Herald in Glasgow before setting up his own freelance business.

Isobel is survived by Jim, daughter Shirley and two grandchildren.
