A large and valuable collection of books belonging to the late journalist Robert McLaughlan has been donated to Glasgow Universities Chrichton Campus in Dumfries.
Robert, who died in 1999, was a graduate of the university and a leader writer, financial commentator for The Herald in Glasgow.


A campaign in the Burton Mail to keep a killer behind bars for the full 40 years of his sentence has ended - on the 10th anniversary of his victim's death.
The dead woman's husband found he had no right of appeal against a Home Office blunder that cut the murderer's sentence by 15 years.


Five young reporters have been taken on by The Crow, in Royston, Cambs - temporarily - to produce their own copy and pictures for a page in the paper.
They later spent a morning with editor Les Baker to see the project through, and he said: "As they grow up they may hopefully appreciate more the need for newspapers in their life."


Archant Life, part of community media group Archant, has added Devon Life to its fast-growing county magazine portfolio.
First published in 1963, the 15,000-circulation title is one of the country's best selling county magazines and is based at offices in Totnes. It publishes over 300 pages each month and is the market leader in Devon.


Colchester Evening Gazette reporter Simon Spurgeon is collecting the £700 he raised for charity by running the London Marathon.
He made it to the finish line in 4h 30m with proceeds going to the Gazette's Sparkle campaign, and The National Association for Colitis and Crohn's Disease.
