Telegraph drumming up business

A local newspaper has helped create a hundred new businesses in a year.

Business Challenge was launched early last year by the Scunthorpe Telegraph and the South Humber Business Advice Centre.

Editor Jon Grubb said there could be "no better way" to help improve the lives of readers than to aid the economic development of the area.

He said: "The Scunthorpe Telegraph is delighted the 100 milestone has been reached."

Along with the centre's expert help, the initiative offered new businesses publicity through free advertising in the Telegraph to reach the goal of helping to create 100 new businesses in a year.

Centre chief executive Derek Marshall said the initiative had a very slow start.

"But that only shows how much the yield of business is out of our hands," he said.

"We just keep seeing the clients and giving them the help they need and hope that actual business to the level required come from that work."
