Sporting chance for Chris

North Devon Journal sports reporter Chris Rogers is celebrating after being selected as one of six finalists for The Daily Telegraph's national Young Sports Writer Competition.

Chris, (23), was delighted to find out he had won a ticket to The Daily Telegraph Damovo British Masters after impressing judges with his 100-word piece on the late motorcycle champion Barry Sheen.

He said: "I thought I'd go for someone a bit less obvious than a footballer or a rugby player.

"I forgot all about it and was really surprised when I picked up the phone and got the good news."

Along with the other finalists, Chris will get the chance to report on the high profile European golf tournament on June 8.

The entrant deemed to show the most potential will then be awarded a week's work experience on the Telegraph sports desk.
