Johnston Press has welcomed two new directors to the boardroom.
Martina King, regional marketing director of Internet firm Yahoo!, and Simon Waugh, the British Gas deputy managing director, have both joined as non-executive directors, while independent director Sir Harry Roche has retired.


A three-part debate on Journalists at War will be held to mark World Press Freedom Day and will host speakers from around the world at a university lecture theatre.
The Press Freedom Network has chosen City University for the event on May 2.


The Wakefield Express has organised a day of fancy dress fun for the city's schools, stores and businesses.
Pupils and staff - together with workers at companies across the city - will either be going casual or getting into costume on Friday May 16, a day the Express, in conjunction with Wakefield Council, has designated a non-uniform and fancy dress day, with proceeds going to the paper's Breast Cancer Appeal.


The Media Society is to run a debate on the impact of the media on freedom in a democracy at an event organised by The Guardian.
Former Observer editor Donald Trelford will chair a debate between Jonathan Freedland, Kelvin Mackenzie, Guy Black and others at the Newsroom and Exhibition Centre, Farrington Road, London. Tickets for the May 14 event can be obtained by calling 020 7723 5059.


The Worcester Evening News has been shredded in the name of art.
Up to 300 papers of September 11 2001 editions have been left as part of an exhibit for people to rip up. The Evening News was one of the first.
