A date has been set for the Yorkshire Press and Media Ball, a charity event to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The event will be sponsored by gas firm Transco, and will be held at the Royal Armouries in Leeds on Saturday, November 15.

Huddersfield Examiner journalist Brigid Shaw, the ball organiser, said: "This year it is very much a Yorkshire event for Yorkshire journalists - and non-journalists - while raising money for a Yorkshire charity."

Sally Crerar, head of fundraising for Yorkshire Cancer Research, said: "I know it will be a lot of hard work, but everyone involved can be assured that the money raised will be very wisely spent.

"Every day, the work undertaken by the teams of scientists gives them a deeper knowledge and understanding of this terrible disease."
