Journalists on strike "until further notice"

National Union of Journalists members at Newsquest's Bolton and Bury titles have begun a third round of strike action in a dispute over pay - this time with no date set to return to work.

Members at the Bolton Evening News, Bolton Journal, Bury Times, Bury Journal, Leigh Journal, Prestwich & Whitefield Guide and the Radcliffe Times stayed away from their desks earlier this month in two two-day stoppages on April 9, 10, 16 and 17.

Now, after returning to work for the Bank Holiday, members have again walked out and plan to strike "until further notice".

NUJ regional organiser Miles Barter said: "It's not the chapel's intention to strike for longer than is necessary, but they want to demonstrate to the management how strongly they feel."

Newsquest management has offered two per cent, the union chapel wants seven per cent.

  • Meanwhile, at Newsquest (Bradford), NUJ members are currently is the middle of a 12-day stoppage. They plan to strike until Sunday, April 27, unless an agreement is reached.
