Weekly auctions its sign of the times

The Newham Recorder is giving its readers the chance to own a piece of the paper's history and help raise money for its annual Toy Appeal.

After 35 years, the distinctive sign above the Archant paper's offices in High Street North, East Ham, has been taken down and replaced with one with a more modern look.

  • Editor Colin Grainger (right) and news editor Pat Coughtrey with the old sign
  • The old sign has survived hurricane winds and torrential rain, and readers can now place bids to be in with a chance of owning the memento.

An opening bid of £50 has already been received, and the money raised will go to the Recorder's Christmas Toy Appeal, run in conjunction with campaigning care group Community Links.
