Royal coverage adds thousands more copies

A visit by the Queen to Havering in London brought a welcome circulation boost for the Romford Recorder.

Her Majesty decided to visit on press day - but that didn't stop the paper from producing a total of six pages of coverage of the event.

Newly-released figures show sales of the March 7 edition were up 13.5 per cent on the same week last year.

The Recorder is already Archant's best-selling weekly, with latest ABC figures recording an average weekly sale of 29,542.

Editor Mark Sweetingham said of the Queen's visit: "It was a tremendous team effort.

"We'd planned for all eventualities but on the day the sun shone and our operation went like clockwork. My reporters, photographers and subs did an outstanding job.

"While I was enjoying myself having lunch with Her Majesty, they were running themselves ragged to get everything done to hit our deadline."
