Echo's call re-connects businessman

A businessman who lost his telephone connection last month finally had his telephone reconnected after three weeks of waiting - thanks to the Lincolnshire Echo.

Steve Davenport, who runs a taxi firm from his home, had his phone line cut off without warning because of faulty telegraph poles.

He contacted BT on numerous occasions pleading with them to sort out the problem, but was told each time that no one was available to speak to him.

But after the Echo ran a story highlighting the problem, BT managers immediately contacted him, anxious to help, and a temporary line has since been installed.

"There's no doubt that the article in the Echo made them come and sort out the problem - otherwise I would still be without a phone," said Mr Davenport.

"On the day it went in the paper I had four BT managers calling me wanting to help - but that was the first time they had shown any interest."

He plans to make a claim for compensation from BT for loss of earnings.
