A massive Charter Party celebrating 750 years of history in Bolton, was organised by a team effort between the Bolton Evening News and the town's mayor.
The idea for the celebrations, which took the form of a Charity Ball, a two day medieval market and a candlelit procession, came from the Mayor who wanted to mark the occasion of the town becoming a free borough in 1253.
The paper's deputy editor Ian Savage, put together a 24-page glossy brochure detailing the great and the good from the town. This was followed by an eight page in-paper pull out.
The Lancaster Citizen has slammed the Government's decision to refuse proposals to improve East Lancashire's dental health because the plan was too detailed.
The Citizen's Eric Leaver said: "This is ridiculous. It suggests that if our health chiefs had presented a vague scheme instead, it would have stood a better chance of being approved."
Homelessness charity Julian House has beaten its target in a £75,000 fund-raising drive to pay a large share of its basic running costs for the next year, raising more than £77,000.
