Newsdesk's Margaret plays cupid for TV bride-to-be

Countryside couple Fiona Cooper and James Marsh, perfectly matched by the Bristol Evening Post's newsdesk secretary, are to get married.

Margaret Jayne played cupid after Fiona, a geologist from Clevedon, was ditched during her quest for love on ITV programme The Farmer Wants A Wife.

The 26-year-old had been paired with Richard 'R' from Staffordshire, but on the final episode of the show the farmer ended their relationship out of the blue.

The Post stepped in and invited eligible bachelors to write in saying why they would be the perfect match for Fiona.

Newsdesk secretary Margaret read through the letters, selecting the best of the bunch and passing them on.

Fiona decided to call James, a 27-year-old chartered surveyor from Shepton Mallot, after reading his letter and seeing a photo of him bungee jumping in New Zealand.

The couple fell in love and James proposed to Fiona at Bolt Head in Salcombe, where they had shared one of their first dates.

The couple will be having a church wedding in September at Cullompton in Devon, before honeymooning in Australia.

Margaret said: "I thought James wrote the best letter and would be the man for her. I am delighted they are getting married."
