Curtain rises on journalist's plays

Somerset County Gazette leisure editor Rod Hancox has two plays being performed in London this week.

The Garden Theatre Co is staging a Hancox double-bill at the Courtyard Theatre in central London from last night until February 9.

The plays are Dag and An Actress in Search of Herself, both of which won awards when premiered in the All-England Play Festival.

Dag, an energetic ensemble piece, charts a life from womb to womanhood, and is based on the life of former local journalist Dagmar Smeed. The second play is a challenging monologue which finds an actress trying to find the woman within.

Both productions star professional performer Lisa Gosbee, formerly of Shearston near Taunton.

Curtain-up is at 8pm each night and tickets are £10 (£7 concs) from the box office on 020 7833 0876.
