Family and friends say farewell to former editor

The funeral of Sandy Clark, the first editor of the Glenrothes Gazette, has been held.

Sandy was also a member of the Guild of British Newspaper Editors, the Society of Editor's predecessor organisation, and was Scottish chairman in 1972-74 and national president in 1978.

Family and friends of the former journalist attended the service at Kirkcaldy Crematorium on Friday.

Sandy, who was 76, died in hospital in his home town of Kirkcaldy in Fife after a long illness.

He began his journalism career at the Fife Free Press, Strachan & Livingston's flagship weekly newspaper, as a trainee reporter at the age of 16.

In 1962 he became the first editor of the Glenrothes Gazette, a new weekly paper launched by Strachan & Livingston, which was then an independent company and is now part of the Johnston Group.

Five years later he was appointed editor of the Fife Fress Press before being made managing editor of the group's seven titles in Fife and Angus.

He retired in 1984 due to ill health.

In 1983 he was awarded honorary life membership of the Guild.
