Print changes result in job cuts

Pressure for colour pages has resulted in some printing being moved from the Lincolnshire Echo plant to presses at the Grimsby Telegraph, resulting in the loss of 25 jobs in Lincoln.

Most of the staff are nightshift workers involved in printing weekly papers and supplements at the Lincolnshire Publishing Company offices on Brayford Wharf East, Lincoln. They will leave the company on December 14.

Managing director Malcolm Pheby said: "The need has arisen for greater colour availability in our weekly newspapers and supplements to satisfy the requirements of our customers.

"For that reason we have decided to move the printing of some titles to our sister Northcliffe newspaper in Grimsby.

"Unfortunately this has resulted in the loss of 25 positions at Lincoln from the closure of our nightshift.

"The whole aim of the move is to improve even further the quality of our newspapers and the service we offer."

The Lincolnshire Publishing Company employs 360 people. Production and printing of the company's daily title, the Lincolnshire Echo, will be unaffected by the changes.
