One of the longest-serving employees at Aberdeen Journals has signed off, taking his last shift in the press room 47 years after joining the firm.
Paul Shand, (62), began as a 15-year-old newsroom 'runner', served an apprenticeship to become a process engineer, and moved from hot metal to new technology.


Reports suggest that former Newcastle Journal reporter Yvonne Ridley, who fell into the hands of the Taleban after crossing into Afghanistan without a visa, could find herself featured in a film about her experiences.
The Journal believes Elizabeth star Cate Blanchett could be the woman to play the role.


LibDem MEP Nick Clegg, who is a columnist for the Lincolnshire Echo, is to stand down from his role in politics at the next Euro elections. He has represented the East Midlands since 1999.

Proceeds will go the Suffolk Accident Rescue Doctors, and editor Nigel Pickover said: "They are wonderful volunteers who turn out day and night, rain or shine and save countless lives in difficult circumstances."
