Inquisitive schoolchildren Vicki Ashton and Ian Haigh have been given a unique insight into the world of newspaper journalism.
Vicki, (15), and 14-year-old Ian took part in a week's work experience at the Lincolnshire Echo as part of the nationally acclaimed Pressgang UK scheme.
The national programme has been named one of the most outstanding work programmes in Britain by Schools Minister David Milliband, and Vicki and Ian fought off competition from other pupils to attend the scheme.
Both spent the week trying out all aspects of journalism including photography and writing copy to helping produce a farming supplement.
Ian said: "I am thinking about a career in journalism myself and so this week has been a great experience.
"I loved being in the newsroom itself and being a part of everything that goes on - it was really good fun."
It is the first time that the Echo has taken part in this scheme, although it does provide work placement opportunities throughout the year.
Deputy editor Richard Bowyer said: "Such a scheme gives young people an invaluable insight into journalism.
"The competitive media industry needs bright and enthusiastic people that the Pressgang programme works to encourage.
"I would advise anyone interested in entering journalism to gain as much work experience as they can."
Pressgang UK was originally set up in Liverpool to help youngsters gain experience of the media profession locally, but the scheme has now spread around Britain.
