Journalists' group does the write thing for charity

A group of journalists has donated £3,000 to two Northern charities.

The Northern Group of Motor Writers has shared the money it raised during its annual gala dinner between two trust funds in North Yorkshire and Teesside.

The motoring journalists have given £1,500 to the Rosie Henry Trust Fund, in Northallerton, which helps a five-year-old girl who suffers from a life-limiting neuro-degenerative condition to enjoy a better quality of life.

The second £1,500 donation was given to the Teesside-based Katie Trust, which was founded in May 1999 in memory of six-year-old schoolgirl Katie Neal, who died from a rare form of cancer.

The fund is financing research work to find a cure for the cancer.

The £3,000 was raised from a raffle and auction held at a dinner organised by the journalists at Redworth Hall, County Durham, and the cheques were presented by Bill Duckworth, the group's chairman.
