Hot off the press

A reprint was ordered at the Bridport News after 10,000 copies went up in smoke.

The incident happened during the firefighters' strike when a van carrying the newspapers from Weymouth to Bridport caught fire in the early hours of the morning.

The paper told the story and said: "The News was hot of the press last week - literally.

"After about an hour, a Green Goddess from Weymouth dealt with the fire - thought to have been caused by an electrical fault - at the top of Abbotsbury Hill.

"But the papers re-ignited later when the vehicle had been put on a low-loader."

Staff rallied around to re-print the edition when their shift started at 6am.
