Death of a 'great character'

A veteran journalist who was a household TV name before turning his skills to newspapers has died, aged 69.

Jersey Evening Post columnist Gordon Young retired as a feature writer at the newspaper in 1997 but continued to write a Saturday comment column.

Gordon's work attracted a wide readership with its fearless and outspoken challenges to authority.

His career was launched as one of the early faces of Channel Television in the 1960s and 70s.

Evening Post editor Chris Bright paid tribute to "one of the great characters of Jersey journalism", and said: "He is irreplaceable."
