Ding dong! Weston journalists get in the swing...

Those have-a-go journalists from the Weston and Worle News have been getting into the swing again…

They decided to learn the ropes and join a team of church bell ringers for their latest challenge.

News editor Juliet Auty and reporters Wenna Coombs and Vicki Flowers have already tried pole dancing - and have some other stunts lined up to entertain and inform their readers.

But the art of campanology came into focus for the latest off-diary jaunt.

  • Vicki, Juliet and Wenna
  • Vicki said: "The first challenge we were faced with was climbing the tower to get to the bells, which was not an easy task as it was extremely narrow and steep.

"When we finally reached the top, somewhat out of breath, we were faced with a room with ropes hanging from the ceiling with a multi-coloured-section called Sallies."

Alas, after being shown the ropes, Vicki decided she would never have the co-ordination or strength to take up the hobby on a regular basis.

Juliet (above), on the other hand- was a dab hand, having been a bell ringer in her younger days.

She said: "I can remember being terrified at first of being carried up on the end of the ropes or letting go by accident.

"But once you get the hang of it, it's not frightening."
