Aberdeen Press and Journal journalist Jim Urquhart has celebrated 30 years at the paper.

Now chief sub-editor, Jim, (51), joined the paper on November 20, 1972, as finance sub-editor.

In 1980 he moved on to news, when he was appointed assistant chief sub-editor and was promoted to deputy chief sub-editor two years later.

He has been chief sub-editor for the past 18 years and is responsible for overseeing the content and make-up of all Press and Journal news pages.

To mark his long-service, Aberdeen Journals managing director Alan Scott presented Jim with a gold watch.

Jim said: "There have been huge changes since I started 30 years ago. We have moved from hot metal to computer setting.

"I do miss the hot metal days because there were a lot of characters about.

"The job is still exciting because you have to be able to adapt quickly to sudden changes in circumstances and you have deadlines to meet. It is certainly never boring."
