Double dip to mark 65th

A former West Briton reporter has celebrated his 65th birthday by running coast-to-coast across Cornwall.

John Hosken also worked on the Western Morning News and Daily Herald in Fleet Street before joining the BBC, where he became industrial correspondent.

He began his trek by dipping his foot in the sea near St Agnes, then took a route that passed the headquarters of the West Briton in Truro, where he started his journalistic training back in 1955.

He carried out the run to prove 65 was no longer "old" and completed it when he dipped his foot in the sea again - this time in Falmouth.

Then after the run he got on with the real celebrations - a reception at the Brookdale Hotel.

He said: "I have kept up my running all my life and have taken part in marathons.

"I enjoyed passing the places where I ran and cycled as a lad."
