Riot suspects demand half a page

Mugshots of 24 suspected rioters who went on the rampage at a pop festival have been printed in a half-page montage in the Evening Chronicle, Newcastle, in a bid to help the police.

They were caught on camera by officers as 200 thugs threw bricks and bottles and caused trouble at the Carling Music Festival in Leeds.

The Chronicle was asked to help after police intelligence revealed ringleaders among the trouble-makers could be from North East colleges.

Two toilets blocks were set alight and other property at temple Newsham House was damaged, with 40 concert-goers and two police officers suffering injuries in the melee.

The paper teamed up with the Crimestoppers charity on the day the pictures were released from the three day event, where trouble broke out on the night of August 25/6.
