The managing director of Grimsby and Scunthorpe Newspapers is to retire after four years at the helm.

Mike Wood, who will leave the company this month, will be succeeded by the current deputy managing director, Mark Webb.

Mike began his newspaper career as a sports writer at the Leicester Mercury.

He worked in news and broadcasting before he was successively appointed assistant editor of the Grimsby and Scunthorpe Telegraphs, editor of the Derby Evening Telegraph, editor of the Hull Daily Mail and assistant managing director of the Hull Daily Mail.

Mike said: "I have enjoyed happy years at Grimsby and Scunthorpe Newspapers working with a great group of people.

"I am leaving confident in the knowledge that they will continue to enhance both the reputation of the company and the quality of services it provides."

His successor, Mark, has worked for the company for nine years and has previously worked for the Today and Guardian newspapers and the Hull Daily Mail.

He said: "I am immensely proud to be taking over the helm.

"I know this is a company that values is employees and strives for outstanding customer care.

"Both the Grimsby and Scunthorpe newspapers have been at the heart of their respective communities for decades, reporting on the highs and lows of the area, and both always stand as independent voices."
