Fire at newspaper offices

Production of the Sheffield Star was interrupted on Wednesday after fire broke out in the printing room at the paper's York Street offices.

Staff were evacuated for more than two hours when a machine in the basement overheated and caught fire.

This meant some copies of Thursday's Sheffield Star and Metro had to be printed at the paper's sister plant in Leeds.

Sprinkler systems stopped flames spreading but some of the machinery was affected by water and smoke damage.
