One giant leap for Lisa

A fundraising appeal by the Cambridgeshire Times was given a boost with a hair-raising experience for one of the newspaper's reporters.

Lisa Cleverdon was sponsored by staff at the Wisbech Standard and March Times to do a skydive for the newspaper's Riding for the Disabled Association appeal.

Reporting on her jump, Lisa said: "They kitted me and three others out in very attractive suits, harnesses and helmets, before we were led to out plane to await take off.

"The aircraft climbed as quickly as my heart rate, and before I knew it I was falling to earth with the whole of Cambridgeshire laid out before in a carpet of green and brown.

"The rest, as they say, is history, but thankfully I wasn't and I lived to tell the tale of what was possible the most exhilarating experience of my life, raising money for out appeal in the process."

The appeal has been organised by the Wisbech Standard and Cambs Times series of newspapers and aims to provide disabled riders at the Hereward RDA group with a purpose-built wagonette.

Donations from Wisbech Rotary Club and the disbanded Whittlesey and District Riding Club, as well as the £100 sponsorship money from Lisa, have helped push the current total to more than £5,000.

Another £3,000 is needed before the target is met.
