Footy appeal brings names

Detectives in Hull have the names of eight football violence suspects after Hull Daily Mail readers responded to a front page call for information.

The Mail printed pictures of the suspects after they were captured on video by a resident following a disturbance before Hull City's pre-season friendly with Middlesbrough.

The paper appealed for readers who had any information on the suspects to contact the police.

Det Sgt Jon Roe said the police had received about 30 calls after the Mail ran the story.

He said: "We are very pleased with the response. We've got some leads to follow up in connection with all of the men and we had some recognise themselves and ring us up. I would like to thank the Mail's readers for their help."

  • Anyone convicted of being involved in the violence could face up to five years in jail. Hull City FC has also vowed to ban anyone found to have taken part from future games.
