Gloucester evening appoints new editor

Ian Mean has been appointed the new editor of The Citizen, Gloucester, succeeding Spencer Feeney, who is moving to Swansea to edit the South Wales Evening Post.

Ian, (55), is currently assistant editor, (news and marketing), at the Western Morning News and will transfer between the two Northcliffe titles at the end of this month.

He joined the Western Morning News nearly four years ago from The Mirror in London where he was marketing manager.

Previously, he had been northern news editor of the Daily Mail in Manchester and chief news editor of the Birmingham Evening Mail for nine years.

He said: "The Citizen has a tremendous history as an evening paper and I look forward to helping it grow and at the same time developing the editorial team.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with Barrie Williams at the Western Morning News and now look forward to the new challenge of editing a paper with great traditions and prospects."

Northcliffe Newspapers managing director Kevin Beatty said: "I am delighted that Ian has secured his first editor's chair with Northcliffe.

"His wide experience across the whole gamut of newspaper publishing will ensure The Citizen continues to have strong editorial leadership."
