Mail appoints first woman news editor

The Oxford Mail has appointed its first woman news editor.

Stephanie Preece, who was previously deputy news editor at the Oxford Mail, is the first woman to hold the post in the paper's 74-year history.

She succeeds John Chipperfield, who has been appointed an assistant editor.

Stephanie, (28), joined the Oxford Mail in December 2000 from the Worcester Evening News.

Assistant news editor Malcolm Bradbrook, (29), has been promoted to deputy news editor.

He has worked at the Mail since May last year and previously worked for the Derby Evening Telegraph.

Mail editor Jim McClure said: "Both Stephanie and Malcolm are remarkable for blending a high degree of professionalism with cheerful disposition and a very ready wit - we wish these two very special, talented people every success."
