John says farewell to the Examiner

John Williams has said farewell to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner after almost seven years as editor.

He left the paper on Friday to rejoin the Liverpool Daily Post.

John is succeeded by Roy Wright, who was previously assistant editor of the Liverpool Echo.

Roy, (41), said: "I am keenly aware of the heritage, and the good relationship the Examiner has had with its readership over the last 150 years and I am keen to maintain and build on that bond.

"A lot of good things have been done in the paper, many of them by John Williams. I am planning to build on these good things to take the Examiner into a new era."

Roy is originally from Burnley and has worked in Manchester, Hull and Liverpool.

He worked as a sports reporter covering soccer and rugby league before moving into newspaper production.

John, (44), will join the senior team on the Liverpool Daily Post, working from its new production centre near Conwy, North Wales.

He became deputy editor of the Examiner in October 1994 and was promoted to editor in January 1996.

He said: "I have been incredibly proud to be editor of the Examiner.

"It is a very special newspaper which has maintained the highest standards throughout its history."
