Birthday time at the Express

A Berkshire weekly newspaper has been celebrating 190 years of news coverage.

Editor Paul Thomas and his team at the Windsor and Eton Express were joined by leading members of the local community for the paper's birthday celebrations.

Paul paid tribute to the paper's former managing director Jack Reader and Slough news editor of 31 years Eurig Jones, who were also in attendance at the party.

The Express was founded in 1812 by Charles Knight Jnr. It began as a national and international paper before turning local in 1860.

Because of the Royal Family's association with Windsor, the paper has chronicled many important events in history including Wellington's successful campaign against Napoleon on the Iberian Peninsula, the death of Queen Victoria and preparations for the outbreak of the First World War.

Since the first edition of the Express was printed, it has served the community under nine monarchs and eight editors.

The paper also started the Reading Journal and the Bucks Gazette and has been recently acquired by Trinity Mirror.
