Man accused of making racist telephone calls

A man has appeared in court charged with making racist telephone calls to the deputy editor of the Bristol Evening Post.

Gordon Maddocks, (43), from Broomfield in Bristol, is charged with making 27 phone calls to Stan Szecowka's office between August 23 and September 11 last year, of a racist, threatening and abusive nature.

He made no plea at Bristol Magistrates Court but indicated that he would be denying the charge. The case was adjourned until October for committal papers to be prepared.
