Bob sacrifices his beard for charity - after 30 years

Society of Editors director Bob Satchwell has sacrificed the beard he firstv grew 30 years ago in the name of charity.

The former editor of the Cambridge Evening News had the shave to help launch a fundraising appeal in aid of the Addenbrooke's Kidney Patient Association.

The aim of the appeal is to raise more than £30,000 towards new reclining chairs for the charity, which will help make the vital dialysis sessions more comfortable for patients.

Bob's wife Michele, pictured with him above before the shave, is now a committee member of the Association after being a dialysis patient at Addenbrooke's until her sister donated a kidney two years ago.

Bob said: "Hopefully the few minutes of shaving will help give dialysis patients a little extra comfort.

"It will also give my other three chins a chance to see the sun for the first time in years."
