TV news chief was newspaper reporter

A former regional newspaper journalist has been named as the man to head Yorkshire Television's news magazine programme Calendar.

Will Venters studied journalism in Sheffield before starting work as a reporter at the Huddersfield Daily Examiner in the late 1970s.

He moved on to work in local radio before becoming a freelance journalist and public relations consultant.

His work for YTV began in 1992 on a freelance basis and he was appointed news editor four years later, before becoming a producer and making documentaries and light entertainment programmes.

As Calendar editor, he will head the department's 100 staff who make news and current affairs programmes for viewers in Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, North Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and North Norfolk.
