Paper backs football club with cash

A five-figure sponsorship deal has been announced to put the Evening News on the shirt of Scarborough FC next season.

The newspaper is backing the club in a deal that was agreed after talks between football club chairman Malcolm Reynolds and Tim Berry, managing director of Yorkshire Regional Newspapers.

Evening News editor Paul Napier said: "Boro came back from the brink last season and our hopes are high for the future of the club. We thought we should play our part by supporting our town's team."

Malcolm Reynolds, at the club, said: "It is a great chance for the club to get its face known in the town and the community.

"It's also brilliant for the club to be associated with such a high profile organisation as the Evening News."

The paper will also sponsor four matches next season and as part of the deal, the club's new hospitality lounge will be named the Evening News Executive Suite.
