New editor announces appointments

The new editor of the Basingstoke Gazette has moved quickly to stamp his mark on its editorial team by announcing three new senior appointments.

Just two weeks after landing the top job at Gazette Newspapers, Mark Jones has promoted three of his senior staff to new roles.

Deanne Shallcross, formerly chief sub, has been promoted to deputy editor, while the former deputy chief sub, Lyndon Hogg, has been made chief sub editor.

The paper's former news editor, Simon Pluckrose, has also been promoted to assistant editor.

Mark, who was previously the Gazette's deputy editor, was appointed editor in Mid May, replacing Bill Browne who is now editor of Newsquest's Salisbury titles.

Mark said: "I am delighted to announce the new appointments for these very talented people.

"The promotions are all well-deserved and I know everyone at Gazette Newspapers joins me in congratulating Deanne, Simon and Lyndon on their good news and in wishing them every success in their new roles."
