Death of former Welsh journalist

Former Welsh journalist Peter Jones has died. He had been suffering from cancer.

Mr Jones, (66), died in his sleep at his home in Sketty in Swansea, last Sunday.

He began his journalism career aged 15 when he joined the South Wales Evening Post in Swansea.

In 1958 he joined the Western Mail and was the chief reporter in Swansea for many years.

He later became one of Britain's first science and environment correspondents when he took on the role at the Western Mail in 1966.

He is survived by his wife Betty and children Simon, Deborah and Timothy and one grandchild.
