Mark Jones steps up to editorship

Mark Jones is the new editor of Gazette Newspapers at Basingstoke.

Mark (right) - who started his career in 1985 at the Evening News in Worcester, has been deputy editor at Gazette Newspapers since February 1997.

Prior to working in Basingstoke, he spent several years at the Southern Daily Echo in Southampton where he worked as chief crime reporter for four years before being promoted to assistant news editor.

Mark, (38), said: "I have very much enjoyed my role as deputy editor with Gazette Newspapers, during which time I was fortunate to work with a superb editor in Bill Browne.

"I am now looking forward to building on the good work that has been done here with the marvellous team that we have in editorial and other departments."

Mark is married to Donna, who is a freelance journalist and part-time lecturer. They have a daughter Pippa, who is four this month.

  • Bill Browne is now the editor of Newsquest's Salisbury titles, which include the Salisbury Journal.
