Newsroom replica opens

A replica of The Journal and Evening Chronicle newsrooms in Newcastle has been officially opened.

Aimed at giving young people an insight into the world of the media, the Newspapers in Education Newsroom houses all the equipment and technology needed to create a newspaper.

It accommodates up to 35 pupils and visitors to the newsroom will be able to follow the production process of a newspaper, and write their own stories and design their own pages.

During the official opening of the newsroom Newcastle Chronicle and Journal managing director Steve Brown said: "In this electronic age we have got a vested interest in trying to ensure that young people do not forget about newspapers.

"This an ideal facility for children to work in, it is a live, pragmatic thing, somewhere to produce tangible news pages which they can take away with them at the end of the day."
