A successful bid for cash has resulted in Falmouth College of Arts attracting £1.6m of European Social Funding to establish a Creative Enterprises for Cornwall project.
The project should encourage more applicants for postgraduate courses, including those in journalism, multimedia and creative writing offered by the Cornwall college.


Some 120,000 copies of the Glasgow Herald have been turned into a work of art by controversial artist David Mach.
He is using the 40 tons of newsprint together with wrecked cars and said: "I like using newspapers and magazines because you get a contemporary feel - they make a statement."


Editorial staff at a series of Cambridgeshire newspapers have raised more than £550 for charity by staging a race night for Riding for the Disabled.
March Times sports assistant Kath Ingram organised the event, hosted by the Wisbech Standard and Cambridgeshire Times group: the March Times, Chatteris Times and Whittlesey Times.


A display of Evening Chronicle photographs spanning the 50 years of the Queen's reign will be on view at an exhibition to mark the Golden Jubilee.
Picture editor Rod Wilson said: "It's a fantastic collection of pictures gathered over 50 years."
The snaps, all taken by Chronicle photographers, will be on show at Tyneside's Discovery Museum until August 16.


Readers of the Liverpool Echo are being urged to help a police sweep on mobile phone thieves in its circulation area.
The blitz on hotspots has prompted the paper to team up with Merseyside police in a campaign to smash street crime and scores of extra officers are being dedicated to trap robbers - and follow up readers' leads.
