The Bristol Evening Post is running a series of hard-hitting stories about the city's ongoing problem with beggars.
It was prompted by an investigation last year by the paper's current affairs editor, Chris Maguire, in which he spent a day on the street as a beggar.
During the day he was able to buy a bottle of methadone, as well as being offered an assortment of other drugs.
The photo shows Chris (on the left) begging and the man (right, crouching) who sold the methadone for £2. The man standing was not involved.
Twelve months on, Chris (left) has gone back to the streets to see if the situation had changed - sadly only to find that it hasn't.
That's despite posters in shop windows urging people not to give money, and the discovery of a sea of discarded hypodermic needles near a children's play area.
Read Chris's experiences as he spent a
day on the streets.
And here is his original story.
Chris's original story formed part of his submission to this year's South West BT Media Awards, where he was named Feature Writer of the Year.Do you have a story about the regional press? Ring 0116 227 3122/3121, or
