A problem that's still begging for a solution

The Bristol Evening Post is currently running a series of stories about the city's ongoing problem with beggars.

It was prompted by an investigation last year by the paper's current affairs editor, Chris Maguire, in which he spent a day on the street as a beggar.

During the day he was able to buy a bottle of methadone, as well as being offered an assortment of other drugs.

The story formed part of Chris's submission to this year's South West BT Media Awards, at which he won the Feature Writer of the Year category.

Twelve months on, Chris has gone back to the streets to see if the situation had changed - sadly only to find that it hadn't.

Here is his original story.
