Worldwide audience for Cornish newsletter

A new website has been launched to bring the news in Cornwall to Cornish speakers around the world.

Freelance journalist and PR consultant Matthew Clarke, who runs the new venture, has set the site up entirely in Cornish.

He said: "Until now, people had to wait for a monthly newsletter in Cornish.

"Despite the quality of writing in this kind of periodical, it does not fulfil a need to know what is happening that particular week.

"Even more important than that, is providing Cornish students around the world with something to read on a regular basis."

Matthew, who also runs Spin Kernow Public Relations, has been commissioned by the Cornish Language Fellowship to work on providing the most extensive online facility for the Cornish Language.

"The new site will be bilingual and have many facilities to benefit fluent speakers, students, and people interested in the language," he said.

"There are many websites around at the moment, but none of them fulfil the entire need for a full Cornish Language web service."

The news website, www.geocities.com/cornishnews, will be updated daily.

The planned Cornish language facility, being set up with a supporting grant of £900 from Cornwall Council, is currently being built at www.cornish-language.org.
