A website that provides support and advice for bullied children has launched a new section to help them stay safe in cyberspace.

The Internet safety section is part of www.bullying.co.uk, run by Liz Carnell, a sub-editor at the Yorkshire Evening Post, and has information for pupils, parents and teachers.

It explains the potential dangers of chatrooms and gives tips such as to never give out your real name, and never agree to meet anyone from a chatroom on your own.

It also lists a number of danger signs and gives advice on what to do about abusive e-mails and "hate" websites.

The site is also a resource for anyone who needs to take action against their local authority, if they feel more could be done about bullying.

Liz set up the site in April 1999 after her own struggle with Yorkshire County Council and it had more than 44,000 visitors in its first year.
